Why Did I want to do an apprenticeship at North Somerset Council and what are the benefits?

I had already completed a two year Business Administration Course at Weston College and felt I was ready to go into a working environment, I also lived on my own so was a great way to earn and learn at the same time. North Somerset Council was my first option, as it has so many different departments and I knew if I put the effort in I could work my way up.

Benefits of an Apprenticeship?

It is so beneficial to do an Apprenticeship because most employers ask for “experience” when applying for a job and you can gain that whilst learning.

My confidence has grown so much from being in a workplace environment, when I was at college I struggled to do a presentation in front of a class now I travel to places like York and London to present in front of hundreds of people and I couldn’t have done that without this Apprenticeship.

After completing my Apprenticeship, I was offered a two year contract as a Children and Young People’s Rights Officer, which is a job I can keep developing in, so it’s great because all my hard work was recognised by my employers.

Advice for someone who wants to do an Apprenticeship?

I would say don’t have any limitations on what you think you can be.
